My top 5 Knitting touchstones

I submitted a top 5 list to the Pop Candy blog of my top 5 knitting book and movie inspirations. Here they are:

5) Lost in Translation: If Scarlett Johannson knits, it must be cool right? I realize her endless knitting project is likely a metaphor for her aimlessness at the beginning of the movie, but she is still knitting.

4) Coraline: The star sweater and striped gloves worn by Coraline in the movie were actually knit on miniature needles by an amazing knitter named Althea Crome. You can see more of her creations at www.bugknits.com.

3) The Golden Compass: This is not my favorite movie, but the knitwear worn by Lyra is stunning.

2) Harry Potter series: Both the books and movies are full of knitting inspiration: Weasley sweaters, Dobby's socks, the beautiful hand knits worn in the films. I have even knit myself a Griffindor hat!

1) A Tale of Two Cities: Charles Dickens creates an iconic character in Madame Defarge knitting while Paris burns and people are beheaded. Madame Defarge may not be inspiring but she is
